The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), under directives from the High Court of Bombay, has made it mandatory for all construction and infrastructure projects in Mumbai to monitor and display air quality levels on-site. Failure to comply can result in stop-work notices and legal penalties.

    These are the regulations provided by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for all construction and infrastructure projects in Mumbai.


    Mandatory Monitors

    Sensor-based monitors for projects < ₹500 Cr and reference-grade (BAM) monitors for projects > ₹500 Cr are required.

    Public LED Display

    A 3ft x 4ft LED board displaying real-time PM2.5 and PM10 levels must be installed at every site.

    Data Transmission

    Real-time data must be transmitted to the BMC Command & Control Center via API, with 60-day local backup.

    Strict Timelines

    30 days for ongoing projects and 15 days for new projects. Non-compliance leads to Stop Work notices.

    Regular Calibration

    Monitors must undergo regular calibration and maintenance as per BMC guidelines to ensure data accuracy.

    Enforcement & Penalties

    Strict enforcement with potential for significant fines and project suspension for continued non-compliance.
